Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Social Media Post

At the beginning of our task, Megan and I could decide what song we were going to choice for our music video. We both took it to Facebook to ask our friends what song we should do. We gave our friends 3 options: a Halsey song, a Twenty One Pilots song or a Paramore song. We received many helpful comments such as:
·       “I love Paramore, but they use so many props and have a really colourful theme that would be hard to follow. I think a Halsey song, (Massive fan;D)”
·       “I love halseys song colours, it’s a nice song to copy. Not too fast not too slow”
·       “Paramore and Halsey…I CANT DECIDE”
Out of all 3 of the options, Halsey was the only choice to not have anything bad said on it.

Classmate Feedback

The programs for editing were new to both Megan and I, so it was a real challenge to edit our music video at first. We asked a few people among our class for a helping hand and a help they were. They taught us how to cut our scenes, how to edit them and place them in time with the song.
Style Model Comments

When we were looking at our style models feedback on different media platforms, to see reviews on the music videos. Many negative comments were left, complaining about the story of the video:
·                "I’m so confused? She was shown taking pictures of her boyfriend but her boyfriend’ s dad is on the pictures??"
·                "Why was she taking photos this makes no sense"
·                "The song doesn't match the video, why did they have to add the irrelevant story?"

The negative comments on her video helped Megan and I plan out our storyline properly.

Colours Album Cover: The Back

As you can see, our album cover to 'Colours' is very simple. There isn't too much content on the back, this allows the minimal content easy to read. The important text is intentionally capital, and is not cursive in anyway. This prevents any difficulties when the audience reads the back.

The white text contrasts very well against the darker shaded background. Of course the album is called 'Colours', as you can see on the tracklist, i have intentionally changed the font colour of 'Colours' to make it stand out against the rest of the songs.

Style models: One of my style models is Lady Gaga's 'Joanne' album. The album has a very light blue background, with white font. I do not think the light blue was a sensible choice as it makes it very difficult to read the white text. As an audience to the 'Joanne' album, this helped me decide what colour i was going to make my album back.

In comparison to my album and Lady Gaga's, there are some similarities. Her album inspired me to keep the album name in the tracklist a completely different colour the rest of the songs. This allows the song to stand out, and have significance against the read of the songs.

I have also placed the barcode in the same position as the 'Joanne' album, i like where the barcode is placed as it is 'tucked away' away from the important text and isn't a major distraction.

My other style model is Halsey's album 'Badlands'.

Main Task: Digipack Cover

I have decided to keep my cover simple. The reason for this is due to the fact that i do not want my cover to be too off putting. It is clear from looking at the cover that the artist is named 'Erin Evans' and her song is called 'Colours'. I kept my text white because both of my style models have white capitalised text. The white bold text stands out well against the darkened image; the 'drop-shadow' effect helps create the contrast.

To the left is Halsey's track cover, and to the right is Lady Gaga's. The two artists are both popular and share the same kind of audience due to Gaga and Halsey's are both pop artists. I idolise the two artists strongly; i have a passion about both their music so it would be a personal touch to add resemblance to my work.  In comparison to Halsey's 'BADLANDS' cover, and Lady Gaga's 'JOANNE' cover there are similarities to my cover. In my cover I am centre of the entire cover just like my two style models. My background is empty and has no distractions. The colour of my background is intentionally duller and a darker tone than my text. The reason for this is that it allows the solid white to stand out against the blue-grey tone of colour.  Admittedly, I got this idea from 'JOANNE'. However, I believe there is difficulty in reading 'LADY GAGA / JOANNE' on her cover due to the two light tones of colour. This inspired me to add in the 'drop-shadow' effect on to my text. This gave my text more volume; the text now stands out a lot more and it does grab the audiences attention.

On my cover, I am standing on my side and giving the camera direct mode of address. This is not something I took from my style models. The reason I look directly in to the camera is because it draws the audience in. It makes them feel involved, just like you would give eye contact to another person in conversation. I have no negative expression on my face, i am pulling a slight smirk. My eyes look as though i am happy. This will make the audience drawn to me, as apposed to me pulling an angry face - as that would make them feeling threatened.

Main Task: Editing

To edit and create our video, we are going to use 'iMovie'. This software is very easy to use. It also has a lot of filters and editing options; adding the options and filters will allow our video to appear a lot more professional, especially in comparison to a video without. When we were exploring other music videos, we watched and admired the choices of editing carefully to ensure we used ideas the same/or similar to theirs.

We decided to add a black and white filter to some shots in our music video; the reason for this is to express the fact that the shots in black and white are from the past. We got this idea from old movies, as old movies were in black and white before coloured media was introduced.
